Sketchbook Pages; 70 - 74 Cross Stitch Samples / Colour Ways

Some more focused samples looking at colour and pattern.

Above is an image of two samples I did, one using blue, green and yellow to see how contrasting colours looked, and while it doesn't look bad, I think it isn't as classy as I'd want. The second sample is using 3 greens in an ombre effect which I really like. The ombre adds depth to the colour which makes it visually stronger.

For this sample I tried more like a basting stitch. This isn't as strong as the crosses but I think the visuals of the embroidery on black against the 3 swatches is really nice. I also tested out what the ideal number of threads to use would be at the bottom of this page. I concluded that 3 threads is the optimum number as too little threads didn't have enough impact and too many meant the threads looked too thick and had the tendency to separate once sewn, therefore distorting the cross.

I tried some more linear designs, similar to the initial sample on the jacket I made where I sewed the crosses down the seam. Again, these are just visually not as strong as the other samples I made.
